Smokin Eyes

This little tutorial contains tons of photos, it was the easiest way to explain what I was doing. I hope this helps.
Start out with an eyeshadow base. I use MAC paint pot in either soft ochre or painterly. I use paints for many reasons. First it acts as a wonderful binder, so that when you put your shadow on, the pigment sticks to the paint and gives you an even application instead of sticking to the oils in your skin. It also gives you an even colored canvas to start working on, and keeps your shadow from creasing through out the day.


Pick a light colored shadow, shimmery or matte..it doesn't matter, and pack it onto the eyelid. I chose white frost because it contrasts beautifully with the other colors I have chosen for the look.

Then choose a soft light color for your brow highlight. I like vanilla because it is matte and has a tiny bit of glitter. Try to stay away from frosty colors on the browbone as they reflect the light instead of absorbing it which is what enhances our natural coloring and beauty.

I use a MAC #252 brush because it is big and flat so it holds alot of shadow. I use the same type of brush for the eyeshadow base.

For any look I choose at least 2 similar colors for the crease; a light and dark version on the same shade. For this look I chose a light shimmery grey called knight divine.

Drop the color filled brush in the outter corner of the eye and swoosh back and forth in a winshield wiper motion across the crease. Bring this color up somewhat high, not all the way to the browbone, but higher than your crease.

Take the flat brush and place the same color on the bottom lashline. Repeat this step with each color you put on your eye so that all the colors will blend together, and your lower eyeliner matches your upper eye color perfectly

Take the same fluffy brush (MAC #217) and put it into your darker color shadow for the crease. I chose black tied which is a black shadow with silver sparkles so it is not as drastic as a matte black shadow. Just pick up a little at a time and build up your color. You can always add more, but you can't take it back once it is on your skin. Repeat the windshield wiper motion dropping the color on the outter corner, swirling in a tiny circle and then swishing across the crease.

Try to keep the darkest part of the color in the outter corner of the eye

Place darker color under the bottom lashline

Smudge the color out by rubbing a soft pointed brush (MAC#219) across the line of color for a softer look.

Pick up a TINY bit of black shadow for a deep lowlight in the deepest part of your crease. Don't forget to add this color to your bottom lashline too.

drop into the deepest part of the crease and blend. REMEMBER: just a tiny bit.

Line with some black eyeliner. I like lancome's art liner..smudge proof and waterproof. It is very easy to use

Line the upper lids

Take the same flat brush you used to line the lower lash line and dip it into the second shadow. Mine was black tied so when I place the shadow on top of the eyeliner, it softens the line and adds some sparkle

Smudge the line just a little for that soft look

GLITTER....every woman needs a little glitter in her life! I put some on my browbone. This one is reflects gold, so it is a pale shimmer with hints of gold. It is not frosty, so there is no danger of attracting the light to the browbone

Clean up any shadow that might have dropped onto your cheeks by sweeping a clean brush under your eyes















Apply foundation. My staple foundation in MAC studio fix powder. It is a powder to liquid foundation with excellent coverage. It is very fast and looks beautiful on everyone. I apply it with a tightly woven kabuki brush because it picks up the most pigment and allows maximum coverage.

Add some mascara, blush and maybe some flase lashes and you are ready for a night on the town.

Because I did such a dark eye, I chose my signiature light pink lipstick in fabby and glossed with a light pink lustre glass called palatial (saddly discontinued)
